How to cancel Squarespace without losing your domain or your customers
Short answer: don’t cancel first. Build the replacement, keep your domain (it is billed separately and stays active), point your www address to the new site, then cancel the website subscription in Billing.
Step by step
Build the replacement before you cancel
Once a Squarespace site plan is canceled, visitors see an expired-site message, so have the new site ready first. Enter your current address on the Web Home Studios move page and review a private draft built from your public pages.
Keep your domain
Squarespace's help center says canceling the website does not cancel the domain: the domain stays active and keeps billing on its own. You can keep it at Squarespace or transfer it later. Source
Point your www address to the new site
Change only the website record for www. Your email records (MX) stay as they are, so your inbox keeps working. Check the new site on your own address before going further.
Cancel the website subscription in Billing
In your site's Billing panel, choose the website subscription, then Cancel subscription and confirm. Depending on your plan you can keep access until the end of the billing period or, if you are inside the refund window, end it now for a refund. Source
Check the refund window
Squarespace publishes its own refund rules for annual and monthly plans. Read them before you choose between keeping access and ending early. Source
